Back in the fall a photographer friend of mine took pictures of me in my wedding dress (with my daughter in a little gown as well) for a shoot called “Trash the Dress” – which wound up just being, play with your daughter at a fair and have fun. The pictures turned out sweet, but I couldn’t help thinking, man, I wish I was the one on the other side of the camera.
And so, when a friend of mine announced that she fits back into her wedding dress eight years and two children later, I offered to do a fun sort of photo shoot for her. Mostly, because I like taking pictures.
So yesterday, with our gaggle of children – some running a muck, two strapped into a double stroller, we went out and played like big kids at a playground, in the backyard, up a tree, in a wedding gown.
It didn’t hurt that they are doing construction next door either. Big, dirty trucks + pretty lace dress = fun.
I think we’ve decided to do a summer beach/dress/photo party later this year. And if anyone in the New England area wants a free, fun, shoot like this, let me know. It was too fun to do just once. (So long as you are not averse to being stared at by strangers as you, say, cross a parking lot or grocery shop in a wedding gown.)

I would LOVE to do this, lady. Seriously. Was thinking of my wedding dress just yesterday and how I don’t know what to do with it – I’m not in love love with it… or want to pass it down or anything (I think it was $200 at David’s Bridal…)
I’ll pull it out tonight and see if I can squeeze into it
(I’m getting giddy thinking about this… don’t judge me…)
Judge you? Are you kidding?
I jumped at the chance when my photographer friend was looking for volunteers. It’s so fun, like dress-up for adults.
What a fun idea!
These came out great!
What fun! I adore this idea, but I don’t fit into my dress. Maybe I’ll just find a new one…believe me it would be easier!!
You took awesome photos.

Haha, yeah, I think it’s just wearing a wedding dress at all, doesn’t have to be your own. I’d look at Goodwill and places like that to see what you could find.
It’s really a lot of fun – if you don’t mind being gawked at a little, depending on the location.
At the fair in my dress, I was a huge spectacle. Maybe I’ll post pictures of that shoot too.
I love this idea! We took most of our wedding photos outside, walking through city streets, and my favorite ones are the completely incongruous shots of woman in wedding gown with daily life happening all around her. I hope your friend will add your fabulous photos to her wedding album.
Corinne, if you go through with this, you better share the results with us!
And yes, please post the shots of you at the fair. Such a fun project!
I love these photos and the idea is great!!
It is highly unlikely that I fit in to my dress…sad. I haven’t even been married 2 years! Anyway, maybe that is a goal I can set for myself…as a reward will you photograph me??
Absolutely – you’ll want to celebrate when you’re able to wear it again. What better way than to go frolic around and get it dirty?
sounds super fun. was just talking about wedding dresses and excuses to wear them again with a bunch of girlfriends yesterday!
Love Trash the Dress shoots! I will add my vote to the show-more-photos-from-the-fair lobby.
Also love your new dream job, which is thisclose to mine. I love weddings – I even love photographing them – but it’s so high-stress. I’d much prefer frolicking children.
